The landscape will soon be changing at the site of the former Thomas Edison HighSchool on Lehigh Avenue in Philadelphia.
It will be called Edison Square and will include a Save-A-Lot grocery store, shopping center and an apartment building for low-income seniors.
The school has been vacant for several years and then was damaged last August in a fire.
Gregory Reaves is Principal with Mosaic Development Partners.
“Really the way to deal with that building is to right size it. I mean there have been a lot of plans put forward with respect to that building and none of them make economic sense just in terms of rehabilitation.”
Construction on the $22-million project starts next month and developersexpect the stores to open by fall 2013. Building the senior apartments will start once that phase of the project is complete.
